Program
Description
The Automotive Technology program includes all the training
offered by the Automotive Fundamentals program plus an
additional quarter that includes advanced instruction on
transmission, brake, suspension and steering, and engine control
systems. Graduates are ready for work as service technicians at
new and used car dealerships, garages, and rental agencies.
Training in the program also prepares graduates to work as
general mechanical technicians, service managers, supervisors,
parts managers, and other related jobs in marketing and sales.
The program uses the latest diagnostics and test equipment
required to troubleshoot and repair automobiles, including
engine analyzers, dynamometers, wheel alignment equipment, valve
grinding equipment, brake lathes, and piston honing machines.
Guest speakers from area auto dealerships and engine repair and
rebuilding businesses, plus an opportunity for a final quarter
internship, round out training with a real life approach.

Length of Program
A minimum of 103 credit hours is required for graduation. A
full-time student can expect to complete the program in six
quarters.
Campus Location
The Automotive Technology
program is taught on the Ben Hill-Irwin campus. New students
are taken quarterly.

Opportunities
The demand for East
Central Tech graduates to fill jobs in the workplace
historically has been greater than the number of students.
Our graduates fill positions at new and used car
dealerships, garages, and rental agencies as service
technicians, general mechanical technicians, maintenance
technicians, service managers, supervisors, parts managers,
and other related jobs in marketing and sales. Their futures
are bright with opportunities for advancement.
Salary Range
The average annual salary
range for Automotive Technology graduates is $17,000 - $30,000.
Personal Characteristics
To succeed
in the Automotive Technology program and an automotive
repair career, a person must be possess problem-solving
skills, ability to organize, work efficiently, have
excellent customer service skills, and enjoy hands-on work. |
