Program Description

This certificate program provides telecommunications professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to sit for the Level 2 BICSI certification exam. Certification requires a proctored written and hands-on exam administered by certified and licensed organizations. Topics include identification of industry structure, standards, codes, and methodologies; media characteristics; preparation for installation, connectors, grounding and bonding; cable pulling and termination; cable splicing; fire stopping; administration; professionalism; selection and maintenance of tools; delivery and inventory of equipment; and interpretation of symbols and specifications. It will also provide the student with the knowledge of fiber optics and enable the student to identify the different types of fiber in use and the termination and splicing procedures for them. The testing and troubleshooting of the cabling infrastructure is designed for the experienced technician that may be in a supervisory or lead technician role and enable them to test and analyze the cabling to meet the standards requirements. Graduates will receive a BICSI Level 2 Technician technical certificate and will be prepared to seek BICSI certification.

Length of Program

A minimum of 15 credit hours is required for program completion. A full-time student can complete this certificate within one quarter. A part-time student can complete this certificate in three quarters.

Campus Location

The BICSI Level 2 Technician technical certificate of credit is offered on the Ben Hill-Irwin campus.
 

Employment Opportunities

BICSI certification is an industry certification that can provide professionals in the telecommunications field with valuable nationally recognized credentials.
 

Entrance Requirements
Required Age: 16 years of age or older
Placement exam required.
