Program Description

The CIS-Networking Specialist (Cisco) program provides students with an understanding of the concepts, principles, and techniques required in computer information processing and its associated hardware and technical support. Classes consist of instruction in topics such as operating systems, program design and develop¬ment, microcomputer installation and maintenance, networking concepts, and basic computer concepts, as well as instruction in a computer language; however, the primary focus is on routing utilizing Cisco equipment including but not limited to routers and switches. Program graduates receive a CIS Networking Specialist Diploma.

Length of Program

The Network Specialist Cisco Diploma requires 90 credit hours. A full-time student can expect to complete the program in six quarters. Portions of the CIS-Networking Specialist (Cisco) program are available online.

Campus Location

The CIS diploma is offered on the Ben Hill-Irwin and Coffee campuses and online.

Employment Opportunities

Graduates of the CIS- Cisco program are qualified for employment in many areas of computer information processing or in other technical support positions requiring knowledge of computer hardware, networks, software, or programming. Such positions might include those as technical support personnel for personal computers or for networked computer systems, information technology specialist.

Salary Range

The average salary range for entry level Computer Information Systems Degree graduates is $28,000-$35,000 depending on geographical location.
  

Personal Characteristics

To succeed in the CIS program and an office career, a person should enjoy computer applications programs, have the ability to multi-task, desire to work inside daily in an office environment, be able to spend long lengths of time at a desk, possess decision making skills, work under pressure, work under little supervision, and have strong customer service skills.

 

Entrance Requirements

Required Age: 16 years of age or older
Education: High School Diploma or GED
Placement exam required.
