Program Description
The Correctional Officer Specialist program is a sequence of
courses that prepares students for employment in correctional
facilities. Learning opportunities help develop academic,
occupational, and professional knowledge and skills required for
job acquisition, retention, and advancement in a correctional
facility. The program emphasizes a combination of criminal
justice theory and practical application necessary for
successful employment. Entry-level persons will be prepared to
pursue opportunities in the criminal justice field. This program
will enable participants to attain educational and practical
work experience so they may become employed as corrections
officers.

Length of Program
A total of 18 credit hours is required for completion. A
part-time student could expect to complete the program in
two quarters by attending classes two nights a week.

The Correctional Officer Specialist
Technical Certificate is offered on the Ben Hill-Irwin and
Coffee campuses.
