Program Description
This EMT certificate prepares individuals to perform initial
medical diagnosis, treatment, and comprehensive care in medical
crises, under the general supervision of a coordinating
physician. The program provides training in anatomy and
physiology, patient assessment, emergency treatment procedures,
emergency vehicle operations, standard communications
procedures, and the legal and ethical standards for emergency
medical care. After completing the first two courses, students
may elect to take the optional National Registry Basic
certification exam; if so, they must pass the test before they
complete the certificate. After completion of the third course,
students must take the Intermediate EMT certification exam.

Length of Program
A total of 24 credit hours
is required for completion. A part-time student enrolled two
nights a week can expect to complete the program in four
quarters.
Campus Location
The Emergency Medical
Technician technical certificate is offered fall quarter on
the Coffee campus.
Entrance Requirements
ADMISSIONS CRITERIA
(STATE EMT REQUIREMENTS):
- Notarized birth certificate or driver’s license indicating
minimum 18 years of age
- High school diploma or GED
- Written statement certifying neither alcohol nor drug
dependent
- Physically able to perform all of the duties of an EMT
- Prior felony convictions require DHR approval for
certification eligibility.
Placement exam required.
