Phlebotomy Technican
Technical Certificate of Credit

Program Description

A phlebotomist is trained in the techniques of drawing blood and in preparing and setting up laboratory blood tests. This technical certificate introduces the student to the anatomy and physiology of the human body and to the medical terminology needed to work as a phlebotomist. Class and lab hours are spent in venipuncture training, which is reinforced through clinical practice as a student in physicians’ offices and hospitals.

Length of Program

A total of 20 credit hours is required. A full-time student may complete this program in two quarters.

Campus Location

The Phlebotomy Technician program is offered on the Coffee campus summer quarter and on the Ben Hill -Irwin campus winter quarter.

Entrance Requirements*

Required Age: 16 or older
Placement exam required.

*Required prior to clinicals:
1. TB testing
2. Hepatitis B Vaccination
3. Drug Screening
4. MMR (Measles, Mumps and Rubella immunization)
5. Tetanus injection within last 10 years
6. “Fit for Duty” physical
