Program Description
The Residential Maintenance Technician technical certificate
provides students with the short-term training designed to
prepare them for employment in a variety of residential and
property maintenance settings. Students will receive classroom
instruction and hands-on training in the fundamentals of
plumbing, residential wiring, refrigeration, AC and DC motors,
and requirements of the National Electrical Code. Basic concepts
and theories of refrigeration, heat transfer, refrigerant
identification, print reading and applications of single-phase
and three-phase motors are a part of the training students
receive in this program.

Length of Program
A total of 27 credit hours is required to complete the
program. A part-time student can expect to complete this
certificate in four quarters by attending classes
two nights per week.
Campus Location
The Residential Maintenance Technician
certificate program is offered on the Ben Hill-Irwin and
Coffee campuses.
Employment Opportunities
Graduates may find employment in
building repair and maintenance and residential and property
maintenance.
Entrance Requirements
Required Age: 16 years of age or older
Placement exam required.
